Can direct sunlight make a built-in refrigerator run warm?
It can add to the load. Sunlight heats the panels and the air around the unit, so a Sub-Zero runs longer to hold its setting. A healthy unit copes. If food actually warms during sunny afternoons, the extra load is exposing a weak point such as a dusty coil, a slow fan or a tired door seal.

Why a bright kitchen exposes hidden weaknesses
A Sub-Zero built-in releases heat through the condenser behind its grille, using room air. When the room is warm, every cycle has to work harder to push heat out. A unit with a clean coil, a strong fan and good seals has plenty of spare capacity. A unit with a coil coated in dust or a fan that has slowed has much less, and a warm afternoon uses it up.
That is why sunny-kitchen complaints often turn out to be ordinary maintenance faults that only show under load. The sun is the stress test, not the cause.
